Conclusion: While a significant shortcoming of the at-home kits is their inability to assess all semen parameters that may contribute to infertility, they are still valuable in their capacity to test sperm concentration and motility, encourage further testing, and provide a convenient first step for men reluctant to evaluate their fertility clinically.

Conclusion
The advent of new technologies and the democratization of fertility testing may upend the traditional approach to fertility testing of couples. Now, with the ease of access to home screening for abnormal bulk semen parameters, the male partner may pursue formal evaluation by a reproductive specialist before the female partner. With the use of a high-quality home semen test, even if the results are only semiquantitative, traditional attitudes toward male factor infertility are already being changed, with infertile couples beginning to initiate their own evaluations. Due to its accessibility, home semen testing may offer the potential to improve public understanding of male factor infertility.

The need for repeated semen analyses, the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and the discomfort some patients feel in a clinical setting, necessitate the need for evaluation of novel semen analysis approaches. These emerging technologies have potential to be more patient friendly, convenient and efficient than standard semen assessment methods. Trial registration number not applicable
